BOOK: Events, Crisis Management and Recovery: Impacts and Strategies
posted to TRINET on May 11, 2020
Edited by Vassilios Ziakas, Vladimir Antchak & Donald Getz
Dear Colleagues, we invite contributions to a proposed book on crisis management for events.
Rationale
Events are from their nature temporal and short-lived, and so susceptible to environmental change, volatility and impeding crises. As the ongoing pandemic crisis apparently demonstrates, the landscape of the event sector is dramatically changing, putting more pressure and demands for event organizations to adapt in the new conditions. At the same time, the emergent environment might create new opportunities for events that will need to be identified and appropriately leveraged. This means that events should develop capacity for readiness, adaptability and resilience to achieve first their own recovery, survival and prosperity, as well as, in turn, to nurture versatility in terms of how events can be employed to serve their host communities’ needs in post-crisis recovery. However, there is limited scholarship and comprehensive evidence regarding crisis management for events. Therefore, the proposed title will build knowledge on the particular aspects of crisis management that events are facing.
There is a two-fold purpose that grounds the underlying logics of this volume: (1) managing effectively events in times of crisis, and (2) leveraging events for post-disaster recovery. The volume is intended to bring together theoretical and practical insights in order to set up a robust ground for effective crisis management and recovery strategies of events.
Topics - Themes of the book include (but are not limited to) the following:
Interested authors may submit by email an expression of interest to the editors by 31 May 2020. Proposed topics may be related to the above themes or cover any other relevant topics.

Book: International Case Studies in the Management of Disasters - call for chapters on COVD-19
posted to TRINET 13 March 2020
Dear everyone,
We have open spots in the Emerald edited book project International Case Studies in the Management of Disasters
Please consider contributing only full length Case Studies at this stage. Of particular interest, of course, would be NCOVID-19 related case studies.
Call for Papers - International Case Studies in the Management of Disasters
Brief summary: This book will present a diverse range of case studies on how disasters, both natural and manmade, are managed in different parts of the world.
Full book description: According to the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction, disaster refers to a serious disruption of the functioning of a community or a society at any scale due to hazardous events interacting with conditions of exposure, vulnerability and capacity, leading to one or more of the following: human, material, economic and environmental losses and impacts. The scholarly community has studied disasters from various perspectives and we now have a rich knowledge field of disaster management comprised of theories, models, and frameworks. However, what is less clear is how all these apply to specific disaster contexts. In this regard, situationally bound and nuance filled case studies, particularly those conducted in the aftermath of dealing with disasters, assume importance. There is a dearth of books meeting this need for the scholarly and practitioner communities.
Tentative Table of contents: The book will showcase 15 - 20 internationally sourced case studies on disaster management. There will be at least one case study related to a type of disaster. The case studies will comprehensively touch upon every aspect of the disaster management cycle. Both successful and failed disaster management practices are welcome.
The editors are seeking high-quality manuscripts on some of the below-mentioned themes from research scholars and disaster management practitioners from around the world.
Case studies on the Managing hurricanes
Case studies on Managing Droughts
Case studies on Managing Volcanic Eruptions
Case studies on Managing Floods
Case studies on Managing Earthquakes
Case studies on Managing Tsunamis
Case studies on Managing Tornadoes

Book on COVID-19 - Edited by Stanley Brunn - to be published by Springer
email - March 19, 2020
Attached is a proposal for a book on COVID-19 that I sent to Springer which is interested in publishing it. The chapters will be written by scholars from different fields and subfields, mostly geographers, and from different countries. What I am doing now is identifying potential authors and inviting them to contribute. Tentative titles and abstracts would be due in 4-5 months and chapters sometime in early 2021,.
I would like to include several chapters on how the virus has affected cities and countries that are dependent on tourism. Can you identify three or four potential authors I might contact? And, certainly, if you wish to contribute, I would much welcome your contribution.
Look forward to hearing from you. Keep safe. -- Stan
